KMF Files are a proprietary TriceraSoft format and hence are playable only in TriceraSoft products. KMF files are designed with the following in mind:

  • Flexibility - Support for multiple data contents
  • Expandability - Support for future capabilities
  • Compactness - CDG data is compressed to save space
  • Security - KMF files are registered to the user
Flexibility

KMF files are designed to hold both audio and lyrics data. The audio can be MP3 or WMA format, which are designed to compress regular audio to very small sizes compared to raw CD-quality sound. You loose a bit of the quality in order to reduce the size, but most users will not notice a difference. The quality and the size can be adjusted when the data is extracted and converted. The lyrics data can be either compressed CD+G data or KSF data. Standard CD+G data from CD+G discs contains graphics that when played back can display pictures and text. The CD+G data contains redundent information and empty data packets. These are reduced and/or removed in order to reduce the size. No data is lost during this conversion. KSF data is a proprietary TriceraSoft text-based lyrics format. KMF files combine these different audio and lyrics data into a single file making organization simpler than the standard MP3+G® format.

Expandability

The KMF format is designed using BLOCKS. These blocks specify the format of the data contained in the file. As new technologies are developed additional blocks can be defined to enhance KMF functionality. Future blocks could include different audio formats (such as MP3-Pro, OGG etc) or Lyrics formats.

Compactness

Probably the most common use of KMF will be MP3 with CDG. Since the CDG data is compressed the space that the file takes will be much less than the equivilent two-file MP3+G® format. KMF's that contain MP3+CDG will be about equivilent to using an archiving format like ZIP to compress the individual files.

Security

KMF files are secure. KMF files contain information about who created the files. This information is used to ensure that KMF files only play on authorized systems. If you are a DJ or KJ you can back up your files and be assured that, should anyone copy your files, they will not be playable, thereby protecting your investment in karaoke tracks.
